CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Edward (Ned) Hallowell, M.D., is a child and adult psychiatrist, a NY Times bestselling author, a world-renowned speaker and a leading authority in the field of ADHD. He is a graduate of Harvard College and Tulane Medical School, and the founder of The Hallowell Centers in Boston MetroWest, New York City, San Francisco and Seattle. He was a Harvard Medical School faculty member for 21 years and now devotes his full professional attention to his clinical practice, lectures, and the writing of books. He has authored 20 books on various psychological topics, including ADHD, the power of human connection, the childhood roots of adult happiness, how to help your people SHINE, forgiveness, managing worry and managing excessive busyness.

He is also the host of “Distraction,” a weekly podcast series that explores why we are driven to distraction and how each of us can implement coping strategies that can turn modern problems into new-found strengths. CAMP FACILITIES: Our summer camps are held in our 25,00 square foot gymnastics facility. We have preschool gymnastics equipment for our smaller students and regulation size equipment for our older students.

CI Sr. - This program is designed for teens and young adults ages 14 - 26 who have been diagnosed with a developmental delay or cognitive impairment and will be successful in a 3:1 ratio.

POHI - This program is designed for teens and young adults specifically who have physical impairments or other health impairments and will be successful in a 3:1 ratio. Qualified, trained staff are in place to address these specific needs.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The camp will be run by baseball and softball coaches who have played and/or coached at the college and high school level. Our goal is to unite our skill set with the sports of baseball and softball and our desire to share the love of Jesus Christ.

We offer many different different sports--and countless ways for your child to grow. The camps range from soccer to baseball to our popular mulit-sport camps where kids sample three different sports (soccer, basketball and baseball) in one camp.

Our camps and programs are offered locally throughout over 500 communities. At Skyhawks we go the extra mile to focus on safety, and we have a long-standing proven safety track record and processes to prove it. For example, all Skyhawks Sports camps start and end with our unique safety process called "Gate System and Parking Lot Duty." This process is where coaches come and greet both parents and campers in the parking lot when parents pull up to drop off their children.

Our staff guide the kids onto the field/court and out of harm's way by funneling them into our gate system. Eye contact is maintained from each one of our staff members until the kids make it onto the field/court where they are grouped by age. This efficient process ensures safety. Additionally, it develops a level of trust between parent, coach, and child that ultimately leads to a fun and skill-focused camp for youth.

CAMP FACILITIES: We have an outdoor Rec Area with a full basketball court, dining hall, outdoor stage with bleacher seating, 15 rustic cabins, modern bath house, 100 acres of woodland areas with trails for exploring, streams for critter catching, open areas for orienteering and all camp games.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Van Buren Youth Camp has been known since 1950 for its successful residential summer camp programs for children and teens. These programs are designed to develop the leadership abilities of today’s youth — encouraging personal growth, self-confidence, positive relationships, and individual and group responsibility.

All staff are certified in CPR/AED/First Aid and properly certified/trained for their specific area of responsibility. They have gone through extensive training in child development, camp safety, recreational games, team building and magic making. All Program staff must be at least 18 years old. Cabin Counselors are volunteers from our Leadership Workshop (or have counseled for us in the past). Both groups must go through an application and interview process, provide letters of recommendation/references and clear required background checks.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Our Leadership Workshop is a one of a kind amazing program! Our high school age campers volunteer to assist with the planning of the week each year. From selecting the theme, to developing topics for General Sessions and Clinics, to recruiting the speakers to present this information to the group...they are involved in every aspect of the program development. There are no cabin counselors at Leadership Workshop...the campers select a different "Counselor of the Day" who will take on additional responsibilities and meet with the Leadership Counsel. The week is designed to see how far we can stretch them outside of their comfort zone while trying to foster a sense of community responsibility. To Lead Is To Serve is our "motto" but the theme of the week each year is different. This is the first session offered each year and where we recruit our volunteer Cabin Counselors

We also offer a CIT opportunity. Counselors In Training volunteer alongside a Cabin Counselor for the majority of the week. On the last day of the session, the CIT will take over the leadership of the cabin to get a real taste of making the decisions and coaching the group through the daily schedule.

FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): The last weekend of September each year is Women's Wellness Weekend (W3). This event is designed for women to come together in a nurturing environment where we do all the cooking and cleaning! We also provide wellness sessions/professionals, yoga, massages ($), manicures/pedicures/facials, craft classes, hiking, biking, and bird watching. CAMP FACILITIES: We have a 4,500 square foot indoor facility housing 6 turf fields, and 2 outdoor baseball turf fields complete our newest addition to Total Sports Complex!

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Total Sports Complex (TSC) in Wixom is now offering week-long summer camps all summer long! TSC provides a fun, safe and stimulating sports arena with counselors who are well trained in child care and entertainment.

TSC Wixom Summer Fun Camps give children the opportunity to play fun physical activities such as soccer, baseball, flag football, etc. as well as educational games, arts and crafts, even science experiments! Camp will be packed with outdoor activities, indoor games, and Friday fun-day with pizza party and water sports included – so be sure to bring a bathing suit. No need to worry about the weather, TSC Wixom has multiple indoor and outdoor turf fields so games will go on, rain or shine. Children will participate in groups organized by age and lead by counselors trained in coaching large groups, mediating conflict should it arise, and communication.

CAMP FACILITIES: Appledore IV is an 85-ft schooner with space to accommodate 9 trainees and 7 crew members in individual bunks. Appledore V is a 65-ft schooner with space to accommodate 6 trainees and 4 crew members in individual bunks.

CAMP FACILITIES: Campers work out at one of two Olympic-Caliber facilities. Indoors, they train at the Biermann Center- which boasts the World’s Widest Indoor 200m Track and the same Mondo surface that was used in the 2012 London Olympic Games. Outdoors, they train at the Herrick Track- which features the same Mondo surface that was used in the 2000 Sydney/2004 Athens Olympic Games.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Camp Director Andrew Towne is in his 6th year as Head Coach of the Hillsdale College Track & Field/Cross Country programs. During this time, he has lead the women to 5 NCAA podium finishes and the 2015-16 Div II Program-of-the-Year award.

The preschooler's will enjoy each summer day exploring nature and the biodiversity around them. We will study plants, animals, and outdoor science. They will be making new friends, create and explore with their imagination, and enjoy in house field trips. In house field trips will have the children exploring – books, acting, sports, safety, geography, science, animals, and storytelling. Special Guests will join us throughout the summer and offer many amazing opportunities and new experiences.

*Field trips will be planned 2-3 times per week for K-12 only; Such as swimming, zip-lining, movies, planetarium, science centers, water parks, laser tag and so much more! We will do "In House" activities for 3-5 groups.

Time for Learning

The children will have a half hour /hour daily required each day for literacy. It will include writing, reading, listening to stories or making books. We use every opportunity in all of the activities we plan to incorporate learning. CAMP FACILITIES: The camp itself is on a heavily wooded, hilly peninsula bounded by Lower Herring Lake and Lake Michigan. Water activities take place in both lakes. There is no vehicle access to the camp; access for campers is by pontoon boat from our parking lot on the north shore.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Days at camp vary as widely as the creativity and imagination of campers and staff allow. In each of three daily program meetings (after breakfast, after rest hour and after dinner), campers and staff decide what activities will be offered.

Activities during either the morning or afternoon could be focused on a specific skill instruction (sailing, kayaking, canoeing, horseback riding, swimming, mountain biking, art, sports skills, or similar activities) or may be a bit more flexible and subject to the spontaneity of the camp community (creating a large outdoor sculpture, organizing a theme meal, working on a creative writing project, designing and building a fort in the woods, organizing a talent night, or rehearsing a play). Evenings tend toward larger group activities including games such as Capture the Flag, Windego Island, talent night, fantasy night, or a campfire. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: This camp focuses strictly on the fundamentals of ball-handling and dribbling. The staple of this camp is repetition and progression drill work. This is a high intensity basketball training camp that is intended to make the camper become a better basketball player by understanding and becoming a skilled ball handler and aggressive dribbler. Although the intent for this camp is to sharpen the fundamentals skills of ball handling, the campers will also learn valuable lessons in self-esteem, teamwork, and the value of hard work!

Our camp will enhance camper’s ball handling technique! Campers will be drilled in the art of advancing the ball as well as using the dribble to attack and score. Campers will also learn when the best times are to utilize dribbling.

CAMP FACILITIES: Our philosophy is based around designing inclusive social groups that allow for participants to express themselves and have a say in the experience. Participants will set the schedule, control the route, and are given the freedom to develop their own games and activities while on our programs.

Participants will sleep in tents (excepting sailing programs, where accommodations are typically on the boats themselves). Participants will typically travel daily, learning to prepare their own meals on fires and camp stoves, setting up their own schedules, learning outdoor skills (survival skills, map and compass, etc...), and learning about group dynamics.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Crystalaire has been offering alternative outdoor adventure education experiences for almost a century. Our staff are highly trained, and will have lifeguarding and wilderness medicine certifications as well as prior experience. We believe in creating playful and inclusive trips in wild places that offer meaningful experiences for all participants. We consider each trip to be a "microsociety," and give our participants the chance to weigh in and decide how they want that "microsociety" to function, how they want people to be treated, and how they want group decisions to be made.

SUMMER CAMP JOBS:
Camp counselors and seasonal staff members are the heart and soul of our camps; Working with and living in a camp comunity where children see, hear, and imitate everything we do 24/7! All staff must provide a high level of energy and enthusiasm in cabins and in activity areas, and be dedicated to the "organized chaos" of camp life.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The Road Less Traveled as an organization was founded by Jim and Donna Stein in 1991, and has been successfully running safe, exciting, life-changing trips for teens ever since. Both Jim and Donna are still the current directors, and are integrally involved in every single aspect of the company. In the summer, they are on call 24/7, available both to parents as well as to our leaders in the field.

We are an ACA accredited organization with an impeccable track record. We believe in the process of accreditation. It allows us to compare our standards to other professionals in the industry. Our accreditation allows us to follow specific standards related to leader screening including use of application forms, reference checks, personal interviews, work history review, and background checks.

Many years ago, we were the first company serving young adults to require that all leaders have a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) medical certification. WFR training is far more advanced than standard first aid or wilderness first aid. In addition to this certification, we carry extensive first aid kits on all of our programs that include antibiotics and epinephrine. Contents, protocols, and standing orders are reviewed and updated every year by our Medical Director who is an MD.

Since our inception, RLT has been on the cutting edge of technological advances in communication. We began carrying Iridium satellite phones on all of our programs as soon as they were available. Today we continue to carry the latest in emergency communication systems. According to geographic location, programs are equipped with satellite phones, ground-to-air radios, and/or cellular phones providing the possibility of 24-hour access to medical help in case of emergency.

SUMMER CAMP JOBS:
Trip Leader/Co-Leader

Travel domestically and/or internationally with a group of high-school and/or middle-school students, monitoring and facilitating community service, language/cultural immersion, and/or wilderness adventure trips

Minimum Qualifications
• Minimum of 21 years of age
• Minimum of a bachelor's degree or in the process of completing a degree. Equivalent experience working with teenagers in related field will be considered if not currently enrolled in school
• Experience Previous program leader experience working with and or teaching young people age ranging in age between 12-19. Knowledge of and experience with group dynamics, teaching or facilitating groups, supervision of meal planning, food preparation and cooking, managing logistics. Ability to teach program specific skills, environmental awareness, and related scientific, cultural, and historical knowledge pertaining to the regions through which you will travel and their relationship to each other.
• Strong Physical Condition
• Current CPR for the professional rescuer
• Current Wilderness First Responder, WEMT or EMT certification
• Current Red Cross lifeguard or Swiftwater rescue certifications preferred but not mandatory
• Current unrestricted valid drivers license with no major convictions during the previous three year period; driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, reckless driving, hit and run, homicide or assault with a motor vehicle, drag racing, operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent, license suspended or revoked within the previous three year period for accidents and or moving violations. Driving record should reflect no more than three moving violations and/or chargeable accidents during the previous three years

• For Adventure Programs: Knowledge of three or more wilderness travel methods. Whitewater rafting, sea kayaking, international trekking, biking, backpacking, technical rock or ice climbing and mountaineering. Mandatory requirements for adventure trips include: the ability to lead groups of students on backpacking trips of three to eight days, ability to comfortably lead through remote wilderness areas. This includes, but is not limited to, backpacking preparations, backcountry travel, route finding, campsite selection, equipment maintenance, Leave No Trace camping techniques in desert and alpine terrain and proper protocol in dense bear country.

All leaders must possess the ability to make prudent decisions in adverse conditions. International Service Learning and Language Immersion Programs: Leaders and must be highly proficient or fluent in the spoken language of the program country (Spanish, etc.) and have extensive experience with community service, international travel, managing multiple responsibilities abroad, experience and/or living abroad, cultural immersion. Knowledge of the following is helpful but not mandatory: Sea Kayaking, Whitewater Rafting, Trekking, Surfing, and Snorkeling

• International Service learning and Language Exposure Programs: Leaders to have extensive experience with community service, international travel, managing multiple responsibilities abroad, experience and/or living abroad, cultural immersion. Knowledge of the following is helpful but not mandatory: Sea Kayaking, Whitewater Rafting, Trekking, Surfing, Snorkeling

• Service Learning Programs: Leaders to have extensive experience with community service, experience managing multiple responsibilities, construction experience preferred. Knowledge of the following is helpful but not mandatory: Sea Kayaking, Whitewater Rafting, Rock Climbing, Hiking, PADI Scuba certified
• Ability and experience supervising co-instructors and participants
• Valid Passport
• Ability to drive a standard transmission vehicle
• Ability to communicate and work with teenagers and co-instructors, and provide necessary instruction

Specific Responsibilities/Job Description
1. Plan, coordinate and execute daily activities and trip logistics
2. Monitor co-instructor and participant assignments for the day
3. Monitor groups and supervise co-instructors' responsibilities
4. Act as a positive role model for participants
5. Responsible for the relationships with general public, people of the land, and subcontractors
6. Monitor ongoing safety and provide education for co-instructor and participants
7. Supervise the health and safety of the participants and environment
8. Together with co-instructor and participant, plan and execute the evening program
9. Identify and address inappropriate behavior with participant or with other co-instructor, for actions that put health and safety of a participant at risk
10. Together with co-instructor, plan and implement evening program as needed
11. Management of financials and accounting including monitoring of expenditures, record keeping, advances, bookkeeping and end of trip summary of information
12. Management of gear, vehicles, inventory, storage, documentation and end of trip summary information
13. Evaluate co-instructor and perform reviews and summer end evaluations
14. Evaluate program and current season and make suggestions for following season
